Maggie Grace was born Margaret Grace Denig, September 21, 1983. She is an American actress best known for her role as Shannon Rutherford in ABC TV show Lost. After the divorce of her parents her parents separated, she moved to Worthington, Ohio to live in Los Angeles. She landed her debut role, as Rachel's Room's main character in 2001, despite having a difficult time in the financial department. After earning an Young Artist Award in 2002 for her portrayal of Murder In Greenwich of a 15-year aged Martha Moxley as a murder victim, Grace was able to take home the award. Grace Rutherford was the main actress on Lost for its first two seasons. In 2004 she received the Screen Actors Guild Award with all of the ensemble. Leaving the series Grace would like to be as a film actress, and had played opposite Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. She appeared as Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken in 2008) as Suburban Girl as well as The Jane Austen Book Club. In 2008, she reprised the role Taken 2 (2013) and Taken 3 (2015). In addition, she played Alice in Malice in Wonderland which is the modern-day adaptation of the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace returned to the Lost series for the last two episodes playing Shannon. In 2013, Grace appears in Californianation, the sixth Season. She portrays Faith as a groupie, and also a muse to the stars that catches the interest of Hank Moody played by David Duchovny. As a member of the Gyllenhaal family she is the daughter of filmmakers Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Achs as well as the elder sister of actor Jake Gyllenhaal. In her teens her career began in small roles for her father. She also appeared in Donnie Darko alongside her sister. Her subsequent roles included Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind in 2002, as well as Mona Lisa Smile (2003). The leading roles of Gyllenhaal in Secretary, a romantic comedy-drama erotico, and Sherrybaby (a dramatic) have earned her nominations to the Golden Globe Award. Following a string of commercially successful movies in 2006 including World Trade Center she received more attention for her role as Rachel Dawes in the superhero film The Dark Knight (2008). In the film, her performance as Crazy Heart as a mother with a single child earned her nomination for an Academy Award Best Supporting Actress. Following that, she went on to appear in comedy films as well as dramas such Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011), and The Won't Back Down (12). The other roles she played were a Secret Service agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013) as well as a singer in the film Frank (2014) as well as The title role in the film The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal composed and directed her debut film The Lost Daughter in 2021. The thriller that dealt with psychological issues was awarded the Best Screenplay Award from the Venice International Film Festival. It was also nominated to the Academy Award of Best Adapted Screenplay.
